Awwww jeez, not this shit again!!!

When Commander Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama walked up to that podium on December 6 2006 with his chilling speech, Fiji had fallen into the abyss.

No one expected after the talks in Wellington between the Commander and Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase that Fiji would be put into submission by the very people who swore to defend the country. The lessons of 1987 and 2000 had not been learned. But in the weeks and months to follow, the snake oil merchants came out of the woodwork. Familiar names such as Mara, Ganilau, Nailatikau and Chaudhry suddenly appeared. New names such as Khaiyum and Shameem wanted a piece of the pie too.

More than a year on, Fiji has suffered at the hands of the RFMF and those shady individuals. Educated and talented Fijians have lost their livelihoods in favour of failures and senior military officers on “secondment”. With an unaccountable government in place, the finances of hard working Fijians has been squandered in overseas junkets, military exercises and new initiatives such as the People’s (Military/Indian) Charter.

More disturbingly the human rights abuses that have occured seem to be just an slight impedence to this cruel and unusual system. People have been killed, bashed, denied due process and had wild accusations hurled at them. The RFMF and its oppressive offshoot, the FHRC, seem to think that the above can legitimately be done to those who stand in their way. However when something flies their way such as the “assault” on Bainimarama’s son or CRW soldiers released after doing their time, its an outrage and must be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Or its complete and total hearsay, when a minister in the interim government has been accused of tax evasion.

As I mentioned before, there is something which needs to be discussed although not with the formal authorities. It is the People’s (Military) Charter. As usual the junta and its sheep like followers seem to think its a beautiful document which will set the path for the “new Fiji”. Unfortunately if you decipher the efforts of Bainimarama and his cronies, it is a piece of paper which will disempower the Vanua and will enforce it (i.e. military). The mindless rants of Bainimarama of assuring that the SDL will not stand, criminals will not stand and the rest goes against the one document that holds legitimacy in Fiji.

THE CONSTITUTION

The above document is the one law that people should refer to in times of doubt or confusion. It is law unlike the Charter which will seek to impose the will of those snake oil merchants in an illegal context.

Teh First Post!

Welcome to Tard Watch Fiji.

It was a hard decision to start blogging about the current situation in Fiji. But it came to the stage where I became sick of the actions of the military junta, their lackeys (or bum chums) and the rest which follow in close order. Over the course of the last year and a bit, I have seen Fiji deteriorate into a dictators paradise where a few decide for many. You must also note that this few are unelected and seek to leech off the precious tax dollars that the average Fijian pays.

They may have their goons with guns, big press releases (uneducated at best), grand ideas for the future and so on. But with Salusalu at the helm of their STASI IT department, methinks that he will struggle to take me down.

It has been touted throughout history that reward does not come easily but is hard fought with blood, sweat and tears. It is earned not merely obtained. Unlike the RFMF which thinks reward should come through pointing a gun at someone or accusing someone of corruption or “coup-related offences”.

So I shall leave you with an epic quote from Charles Kingsley, a celebrated author from the 19th Century.

“There are two freedoms – the false, where man is free to do what he likes; the true, here he is free to do what he ought.”

Let that be a subtle reminder to those coup supporters or enablers that may be reading this.
